Angel Ride

Well, it is that time of year again and I am packing up the motorhome and headed over to Baldwin County for the Angel Ride.  I know it is a little early, but Janice and I will be working the campground again this year and we need to get an early start.

Angel Ride

Angel Ride

For those of you who are not familiar with this organization, over the past years they have truly made a difference for those who have children that are ill and need support and financial help.  The volunteers who put on this ride are truly special.  They are the ones who have gone over and above what most would do.  The believe in the children, their families and their community.

If you have a chance to come out…this years entertainment on Saturday night will be Charlie Daniels and Confederate Railroad.    There will also be entertainment on Friday evening with the Ride on Saturday.  Just head out to Oak Hollow farms and we will see you there.

Hill Riders/CMA Bible Study

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Hill Riders/CMA Bible Study on Tuesday night.  I can honestly say that I look forward to these meetings every month.  One reason is because everyone in the group finds the opportunity to be the teacher.  It is always interesting to listen to another’s view point and to hear how the scripture speaks to them.  The “Priesthood of the Believer” is alive and well in our classes.

While we have a diverse group, we all agree on one thing.  We are committed to sharing our love of Jesus to everyone, but especially to the motorcyclist.  We all travel down different roads.  We have all been given special talents to share with others.  But, we need to make sure we are traveling down the road that God has prepared for us.

I am very blessed to have the support of my church, Spring Hill Baptist, that provides us with a great place to meet and study God’s word. While a motorcycle ministry in the Heart of Spring Hill may be a stretch for your imagination, Pastor Terry Ellis, and Russ Holmes, Minister of Education, have been supporters of this project from the beginning and for that I will be eternally grateful.

If you would like to experience something different in your study of the Bible, I challenge you to join us.  We meet at 6:00 p.m. on the 3rd Tuesday of every month in the Activities Building and everyone is welcome.

You don’t need to ride a bike, you only need a desire to learn more about what God has in store for you…now…and in the future.  As one preacher said, “One Word from God can change your life forever”.

As a final note, the CMA will be having their monthly Fellowship Ride on Saturday 10/24/09 to Burt’s Seafood in Chatom.  We will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Winn Dixie on McCrary and Hwy 98 in Semmes.  Bikes, Cars and Trucks are welcome.

Hill Riders/CMA Bible Study 10/20 – 6:00 pm

Don’t forget this Tuesday night is the Hill Riders/CMA Bible Study at Spring Hill Baptist Church.  We will once again be in the back room of the Activities Center (across the street from the main sanctuary – corner of Old Shell Road and McGregor Ave.)  beginning at 6:00 pm.  We have had some great lessons, not to mention some interesting discussions on a lot of different subjects.

This month, we will give you a different look at the story of Jesus and the woman who was healed after having an infirmity for 12 years.  We have all heard the story, but come Tuesday night and hear the “rest of the story”.  It is something you don’t want to miss.

See you on Tuesday night.

Today, I Saw A Miracle

Today, (Sunday October 18, 2009) I sat in amazement as I realized that I was looking at something you don’t see very often.  If you didn’t know the background, it would seem like a typical baptism that is done in thousands of churches every week.  But, this one was truly special.

Today, a long time member of a “one-percenter” motorcycle club was baptized.  At one time he was the Sergeant-At-Arms for the group.  His position is defined as the enforcer.  He is the one who enforces the rules and regulations of the club. He is loyal and has earned the respect of those around him.  He will protect and defend the club, and the colors he wears, at all cost.

Today, I also saw another member of the same club in the service. He was there to see his fellow biker friend being inducted into this new brotherhood.  This other biker was the former president of the club and served as a mentor to many of the new prospects during his tenure.  He had watched as this prospect learned the ways of the group and continued to watch him rise to the position of Sergeant-At-Arms.  I could only imagine what was going on in each of their minds as they waited for the service to begin…..the years together, the thousands of miles ridden side by side, the parties, the hurts, the pains and the loss of fellow brothers.  This former “one-percenter” club member…is now a Christian, is now being baptized into a new brotherhood and is now worlds apart from his old way of life.

Today, I saw this former club president, not shaking his head in disbelief, but smiling, laughing and showing support for his old friend.  You see, this former club president had the same experience.  He too, is now a Christian, a member of this new brotherhood.  He too, has found something that had been lacking in this life. Today was not a day of surprise, but one of pure pleasure, it was a time to celebrate.

Yes, today, I witnessed a miracle. The former club president came not to scold or criticize, but to baptize his former Sergeant-At-Arms.  Once again, they are true brothers, for all eternity, but this time riding for a different cause.
